Life, every day, presents us with its quintessential hurdles. Sometimes we take the white route, other times we take the black route, but most of the time the route is neither white nor black but is grey. A black for one may be white for the other, who’s to judge, but the mixture of the two colours, is definitely grey. This collection of eleven short stories basically revolves around emotions and actions we tend to feel and take to overcome the trials of life. The betrayal of a friend, the greed of an employee, the disgust of an old man, the possessiveness of a mother-in-law, the insecurity of a woman, the love of a mother, the jealousy of a sibling, the rashness of the young, the anxiety of a groom, the hope of a beggar or even the despair of a lake, are all but natural emotions, be it ‘Black, White and Grey.’

Ashim Basnet is a Hydro Power Engineer and a firm believer in sustainable development. An avid reader, who has travelled the world through books, he is fascinated by the mountains and human behaviours, which can be seen reflected in his writing. Basically a shy person who abhors attention, he likes to spend quiet time with his family and simply loves the serene life up in the beautiful hills of Sikkim. He has been writing over the years, but only for himself till now. This collection of short stories is a glimpse into his inner world. He has a dream, a dream of one day going around the country and inspiring children to read, and to impart to them the values and importance of education, especially to those children in the schools where the dropout rates are very high. Maybe, one day, even have mobile libraries for those who can’t afford to buy books. This book is an endeavour of his to take a step towards that dream.
